Becoming an Amateur Radio Operator (HAM) offers numerous benefits, including enhanced communication skills, emergency preparedness, and the opportunity to connect with a global community. It allows individuals to legally operate radio equipment without relying on the cellular networks or the internet. This is an incredible skill in emergencies. HAM radio operators are crucial during disasters when other communication systems have failed. Local HAM radio clubs offer opportunities to foster friendships and community collaborations in radio communications to several local agencies. You do not need to have any electronic skills/knowledge to take this course and there is NO requirement to learn Morse Code. There is a book required for this course which will be handed out on the first day.
